About us
Germany's No. 1 Mozzarella producer is a young company. In 1992, the Goldsteig Käsereien Bayerwald GmbH and the Plattling eG were founded as a joint venture of the Goldsteig Käserei Plattling eG and the dairy co-operative Cham. Today, Goldsteig delivers to almost all European countries.
The competence and high achievement of the company are mostly appreciated, which go hand in hand with its highest product standards and absolute reliability. Additionally, due to constant expansions, Goldsteig established itself as an important producer of hard cheese, semi-hard cheese and soft cheese..
Dynamic and expansion...
... characterized Goldsteig since its founding. From its early days, the company faced up to the challenges of the European and international market. By merging the Ostbayrischen Milchwerken eG in 1998, the product segment of semi-hard cheese was expanded. In the year 2000, Goldsteig continued its way to success by integrating the Molkereigenossenschaft (dairy co-operative) Straubing. Today, the product range covers from Mozzarella, Emmental, Semi-hard cheese, Camembert, Limburger to Yogurt, Cream, Butter, Ricotta and Mascarpone.
Goldsteig - the name reminds us of the Golden Path, ...
... .One of the most important trade routes, which connected Boehmen with the Danube in the Middle Ages. At first pack-animals, and later horses and wagons transported salt and other commodities from the ports of the Danube in Linz, Passau and Vilshofen northward to the Boehmian region. On the way back, mostly corn was transported from Boehmen. The Goldsteig-region consists of a beautiful nature area and its developed tracks can nowadays be used for hikingt. One follows the route through the Oberpfälzer forest along the eastern side of the Bavarian forest and the Czech border, one finally reaches Passau. The Goldene Steig "Golden Path" the Golden Path continues on towards the north, on the west side of the Bavarian forest, the "Green Roof of Europe", through one of Europe's last original forest areas.
The primitiveness and purity of the region and the meaning of the trade route "Golden Path" were decisive for the name choice of the cheese factories. Milk as a precious product has improved to a highest level to become fine, benefit-rich products. About 4,200 milk producers supply the three Goldsteig production plants with approximately 735 million kg milk per year.
A fully automated (hard and semi hard) cheese factory was built in 2006 in Cham for hard and semi-hard cheese, which meets the highest quality requirements and standards. A computer-controlled automatic high bay warehouse provides not only for optimal storage and commissioning, but also ensures that the Goldsteig products always arrive fresh to the customers.
Goldsteig is now Europe's second largest producer of Mozzarella in the consumer segment and one of the most important producer of hard cheese.
